Shocking Incident in California: Mother Feeds Baby Alcohol, Faces Charges

In a baffling incident from the state of California in USA, a mother filled her baby’s bottle with alcohol and fed it to her baby to stop the baby from crying, following which the 7-week-old baby became intoxicated.
According to authorities, deputies were called around 12:45 AM on Saturday to an unincorporated area of Rialto, located 55 miles east of Los Angeles. The Sheriff’s department later said that the 37-year-old woman named Honesti De La Torre has been charged with child endangerment for her shocking act.
As per officials, De La Torre was driving through Rialto when she stopped to put alcohol in the baby’s bottle in an attempt to stop the baby from crying. The child is currently being treated at a hospital, but the health condition has not been revealed. Meanwhile, the mother is being held in the West Valley Detention Centre on a $60,000 bond. She is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
This incident is eerily reminiscent of another case that occurred in August 2022, when two individuals in the UK were arrested after distressing visuals went viral, showing them tilting a baby’s head and administering shots of vodka.
Dr. Chhabra, Chief Pediatrics at Artemis Hospitals Gurgaon, issued a stern warning, stating, “Alcohol consumption before the recommended age is strictly prohibited, with no exceptions. Not only does it lack any advantages, but the disadvantages it poses are also monumental. Alcohol depresses the nervous system, which can lead to cessation of breathing. Even lactating mothers are advised to avoid alcohol, as it can pass through breast milk.”
The shocking incident in California serves as a distressing reminder of the importance of safeguarding the well-being of infants and children from the dangers of alcohol consumption. The incident underscores the critical need for responsible parenting and a profound understanding of the potential harm that such actions can inflict on vulnerable young lives.
