Couple Allegedly Sells Baby to Create Social Media Reels on an iPhone

In a disturbing and bizarre incident from the North 24 Parganas district, a couple has been accused of selling their eight-month-old baby to finance the purchase of an expensive iPhone for creating social media reels. The shocking revelation has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many questioning the depths to which desperation can drive individuals.

The couple in question, identified as Sathi and Jaydev, reside in the Panihati Gandhinagar area of North 24 Parganas. Their neighbours noticed something amiss when they observed the sudden absence of their infant and a significant change in the couple’s behavior. Just a few days prior, Sathi and Jaydev were grappling with financial difficulties, but to their neighbours’ surprise, they were suddenly seen with a newly acquired iPhone and embarking on trips across the state to create reels for social media.

Growing concerned about the baby’s whereabouts, the neighbours decided to confront the couple. In a shocking confession, Sathi and Jaydev admitted that they had sold their own flesh and blood in exchange for money. Appalled and alarmed, the neighbours immediately informed the police, leading to the rescue of the baby from a woman named Priyanka Ghosh in the Khardah area. It was revealed that the couple had sold their infant to Priyanka in order to gather funds to buy the mobile phone.

Following the incident, the police took both Sathi and Priyanka Ghosh into custody, while Jaydev managed to escape and is currently on the run. Disturbingly, neighbours claim that the couple, who also have a seven-year-old daughter, were allegedly involved in drug abuse as well.

Tarak Guha, a local councillor, disclosed that the couple had planned to sell their daughter as well. Guha stated, “After selling the boy, Jaydev attempted to sell the girl on Saturday midnight. As soon as we learned about this, we immediately informed the police, and Jaydev has been arrested.”

As the incident came to light, it raised serious questions about the underlying reasons behind such an appalling act. The police officials are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the sale of the baby, whether it was driven by extreme poverty or any other ulterior motive. The Barrackpore Commissionerate’s officers have emphasized that they are diligently investigating the case from all possible angles.
