NC claims Farooq Abdullah not allowed to leave residence to offer prayers, Mufti calls it gross violation of rights

“Preventing Farooq sahab from offering prayers on Milad Un Nabi SAW at Hazratbal exposes GOI’s deep paranoia and their iron fist approach towards J&K. Its a gross violation of our rights and is highly condemnable,” Mufti tweeted.

The National Conference (NC) Friday said that Jammu and Kashmir administration stopped Farooq Abdullah, who represents Srinagar in the Lok Sabha, from leaving his residence to offer prayers at the Hazratbal shrine on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi.

Condemning the step, the NC tweeted, “J&K administration has blocked the residence of Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and stopped him from offering prayers at Dargah Hazratbal. JKNC condemns this infringement of fundamental right to pray, especially on the auspicious occasion of Milad Un Nabi SAW.”

Former J&K chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the move saying it’s a gross violation of their rights. “Preventing Farooq sahab from offering prayers on Milad Un Nabi SAW at Hazratbal exposes GOI’s deep paranoia and their iron fist approach towards J&K. Its a gross violation of our rights and is highly condemnable,” Mufti tweeted.

Milad-un-Nabi marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad and it is observed in the month of Rabi’ al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

Meanwhile, leaders of the seven-party People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration in Jammu and Kashmir are working to give the group a formal structure ahead of their “constitutional battle” for restoring to people “the rights they had before 5th of August 2019”.

The alliance will likely have an executive council consisting of the chairperson, a vice-chairperson, general secretaries, a chief coordinator, a chief spokesperson, spokespersons from individual parties, and an office-bearer from each party.

Several sources told that there is broad consensus that Farooq Abdullah, the most senior leader in Jammu and Kashmir, should head the alliance structure, and Mufti and People’s Conference leader Sajad Lone should have important roles. NC vice-president Omar Abdullah will likely be part of the core group of the alliance.
